COMMITTEES OF MINISTRY
Come join in the life of Northminster!
You are welcome to attend any committee meetings to see what they are doing and if
you are interested in being a part of the committee.
Committees of Ministry:
Building and Grounds
If you like to work behind the scenes, out in the yard, inside the church, up on a
ladder, under the sinks, in the flower bed, decorating the church, or at the end of a
hammer, this is the committee for you. Workdays are open to everyone and are
scheduled monthly throughout the year usually on Saturdays from 8 to 12. Breakfast
treats are provided. Two major workdays for extra fixing, patching, painting, plugging
and polishing are in the schedule. Lunch is served on those workdays.
Christian Education
If you like teaching Sunday School, helping with special programs, or just enjoy the
shining little faces of children, this committee is for you. We organize Sunday School,
Vacation Bible School, the Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Pageants, and special events, all
requiring talents in creating, organizing and teaching.
Church Growth and Development
If you like meeting and helping new people in the church, come join us. We organize
programs and activities to assimilate new members into the life of Northminster. Part
of our responsibilities include advertising in the community, coordinating a church
directory, taking pictures, updating signs and bulletin boards.
Mission/Outreach
Reaching out to the community to help our fellow man is really what we are all about.
We organize the congregation to help those in need throughout the year and especially
at holiday times. Some of the programs this committee supports are yellow bags of food
that we donate to the hungry each month, toiletries and clothing items donated
bi-yearly to area shelters, and helping Habitat for Humanity projects. If you would like
to help serve a Thanksgiving Dinner, help build a house, help clothe some youngsters,
help provide formula to feed a baby, or just help someone in need then this is the
committee to join.
Stewardship/Finance/Personnel If you like working with money, budgets, fund-raisers,
and stewardship drives this committee is for you. We coordinate our yearly budget and
organize our annual pledge drive. We work with the treasurer on a weekly basis with
recording offerings and pledges. Financial reports are generated monthly for the
Session and annual reports for audit and archival purposes. Also included in the group
is the Personnel Committee which is responsible for yearly review with staff and if
necessary, screening applicants for Session consideration for open positions.
Worship/Music/Arts
Our committee welcomes you to help with many different aspects of the church. We
set up the sanctuary for special times like Christmas and Easter or just for each
Sunday Service. We make sure all elements are ready for worship service, including
organizing the Lay Leader, Acolytes, Ushers, Greeters, weekly flowers and setting up
for the sacraments. The music of the church is also a part of this committee along with
drama presentations.
Youth
Do you want an energetic and exciting committee? If you like working with youth from
6th graders to high school seniors, then this is the committee for you. What a
rewarding opportunity to mentor our church's future. Guide youth through an
extremely difficult time of discovery and temptation by discussing Christ's love and
grace and giving them a solid background to handle life's challenges and enjoy life's
gifts. The youth have several events throughout the year such as retreats, mission
trips, parties, and many more. If you like to be around people that are energetic,
impressionable, and full of imagination then this committee is for you.
